• Do we have a copy of the PLC program?
• Is the HMI still available to purchase off the shelf?
• Is the PLC password protected?
• Do we have a copy of the electrical drawings?

If you have a piece of critical manufacturing equipment, these are questions that you might be asking yourself.

Sometimes when a piece of equipment fails, it is beyond repair. If this happens to be a PLC for which you do not have a copy of the original program, this can result in major downtime. This is true of VFD's and Servo Drives also, which can be especially tricky if configured with Fieldbus communications.

ControlMotive can perform a survey of your Industrial control system. In this survey we will look at major components and determine the following,

• Is the component obsolete?
• Is there a compatible current version?
• Are the parameters documented?
• Is the PLC / HMI program accessible?
• Is the programming cable / programming software for the PLC / HMI / VFD still commercially available?

If the answers to the above are “no” or “unknown”, we will then help you determine the best upgrade path and plan in a controlled update of your critical equipment, leaving you with documentation, parameter sets and source code.
